Answer: Raspberries are NOT berries!

That’s right! Blackberries, strawberries, and raspberries are not berries at all, but bananas, pumpkins, avocados, and cucumbers ARE berries. Scientifically speaking, a berry is a fruit that forms from the ovary of a single flower with a seed, or multiple seeds, inside the fruit.

Surprisingly, this means that while we often refer to strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries as berries, they are actually aggregate fruits! Aggregate fruits develop from multiple ovaries that join together in the same flower.

We’re happy to provide berries of all shapes and sizes for our neighbors facing hunger — and a lot of other healthy options as well! Your support helps make that happen.
Every $1 you give provides up to 3 meals for families, children, and seniors. Thank you for all you do.
